Why bidding on listings of $25,000 or more requires funds verification, what documents to submit, and who can see them.
Funds verification is you showing that you can afford what you are bidding on. You upload a document — typically a bank statement — state how much you have available, and a reviewer checks it.
You need it to bid or make an offer on anything priced at $25,000 or more. Below that it is optional, and simply acts as a trust badge that sellers can see.
If you cannot bid or make an offer on an expensive listing, this is almost always the reason.
One detail that catches people out: it is the listing's price that matters, not the size of your offer. Offering $5,000 on a $30,000 listing still requires funds verification, because the listing is above the threshold.
The file's actual contents are checked, not just its name — renaming a file to .pdf will not get it through. If you see File rejected, re-export it as a genuine PDF, JPG or PNG rather than renaming it.
This is the question people most want answered, and the answer is narrow:
Sellers see only that you are funds-verified. They never see your statement, your bank, or your balance.
A reviewer approves or rejects your submission, and you get an in-app notification either way.
Note that funds verification does not send an email — unlike identity verification, which does. If you submit and then do not return to the site, you will not hear about the outcome, so check back.
If you are rejected, the reviewer's reason is shown to you on your funds tab. Start there before contacting support, as the explanation is usually already waiting for you.
There is no published review time. Submissions are reviewed by a person, so leave yourself time before an auction you care about rather than submitting at the last minute.
Proving you have money is not the same as proving who you are. They are separate badges with separate processes and separate documents. If a screen tells you that you are not verified while you hold a different badge, that is why — see Verifying your phone number and what the badge means for how the badges differ.
