How phone verification works on Silky Road, which countries are supported, and exactly what the phone-verified badge does and does not prove.
Phone verification is simple: we text you a 6-digit code, you type it back, and your number is marked verified. The code is handled entirely by our SMS provider, so nobody at Silky Road ever sees or stores it.
Two things catch people out: we can only text certain countries, and a number can only be verified on one account.
To keep costs and abuse under control, there are limits per number:
Resending quickly does not help and eats into your daily allowance of five. If you did not receive the text, wait a full minute before trying again.
The supported list covers the US and Canada including US territories, the UK and Ireland including the Crown Dependencies, western and northern Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, major Latin American markets, South Africa, the UAE and Israel.
If your country is not on the list, that is expected rather than a fault, and it is not something support can switch on for an individual account. Note that a dialling code is not a country: separate Caribbean countries that share +1 with the US are not included.
The phone-verified badge means exactly one thing: someone held that handset and typed the code sent to it.
It does not say who that person is, and it is not an identity check. This is the single most common mix-up, so it is worth being clear:
| Badge | What it proves |
|---|---|
| Identity verified | A reviewer checked identity documents |
| Email verified | You control the inbox |
| Phone verified | You control the number |
| Domain verified | You control a domain |
| Funds verified | You can pay |
| LinkedIn verified | A professional profile was checked |
If you have one badge and a screen says you are not verified, you are almost certainly looking at a different one.
Other members see the badge, not your phone number. It is not shown on your profile or your listings.
The badge is a point-in-time record — nothing re-checks the number later, so if a number is later reassigned, the badge stays as it is.
Phone verification is also one of several things considered for the Super Seller badge, though verifying your phone does not earn that on its own.
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| That doesn't look like a valid phone number | Include your country code |
| That looks like a landline | Enter a mobile number that can receive a text |
| We can't send verification codes to that country yet | Your country is not on the supported list |
| That number is already verified on another account | Often your own older account. The other account has to release it — contact support if you cannot access it |
| Phone verification is temporarily unavailable | A problem on our side rather than yours. Try again later, and contact support if it persists |
| The code has expired | Request a new one |
There is currently no self-service way to remove or un-verify a number. If you have changed numbers and need the old one released, contact support.
We'll reply within a business day.
