Silky Road is committed to ensuring that Buyers and Sellers are looked after throughout the listing period (auction or classified) and the payment process. This ensures Sellers receive payment before any ownership or assets are transferred, and Buyers receive exactly what they purchased. You can discuss and negotiate a deal in whatever way suits you both, but the actual offer or auction bid must be placed on the Silky Road listing. If it is not lodged on Silky Road, it does not exist.
In an auction, if your bid is not placed on Silky Road, bidding continues without you and you could lose the item to another buyer.
In a classified listing, the seller may receive and accept an offer from another buyer if your offer is not placed on Silky Road.
Keeping the deal on Silky Road is also what lets us help if something goes wrong. Silky Road is a marketplace that connects buyers and sellers — like eBay, you choose who you trade with and should do your own due diligence, and we do not hold or guarantee funds by default. If you want your payment protected until the transfer is complete, you can choose Silky Road's optional escrow, which secures funds by smart contract. Deals arranged off-platform fall outside anything we are able to assist with.
If a user asks you to complete a sale off-platform (including any “manual escrow” arrangement), please report it to us by contacting Silky Road support.
We'll reply within a business day.
