Prices on Silky Road are in US dollars. Here is what the currency selector actually does, and what you will really be charged.
Every price on Silky Road is in US dollars, and every payment settles in US dollars. The currency selector shows you roughly what a price is worth in your own currency. It never changes what you are charged.
Think of it as a calculator sitting next to the price, not a price in your currency.
Pick a currency and the dollar price is recalculated for display. The supported currencies are:
US dollars remain the currency the price is actually set and paid in.
The dollar amount. If you pay from an account held in another currency, your bank, card issuer or wallet applies its own exchange rate and its own fees. The amount that leaves your account will not match the converted figure shown on Silky Road, and the difference is set by your provider, not by us.
If you need to know exactly what you will pay in your own currency, check with your bank or payment provider rather than relying on the selector.
Exchange rates on Silky Road are updated manually rather than on a fixed schedule, so a rate can be out of date. Treat every converted figure as an approximation for orientation, not as a quote.
Conversion runs from US dollars outwards only. You cannot convert euros directly into pounds, for example — there is no rate between two non-dollar currencies. Since every price is in dollars anyway, this rarely matters in practice.
A Bitcoin amount shown in the currency selector is a display conversion like any other. It is not the amount a Bitcoin invoice will ask you for. Bitcoin invoices are priced at the moment of payment by the payment server, so the figure on your invoice is the one that counts. See Paying with Bitcoin.
A currency can be withdrawn from the list, in which case it stops appearing rather than showing an error. Prices remain in US dollars regardless, so nothing about your purchase changes.
